Moving to another server

Within next 3-4 days LoadAverage resources will be moved to another, more powerful server. What this gives to us:

  • More resources and power, so latency will be lower, speed will improve, etc.
  • More resources to database, that means our GNU Social instance will load faster due to extended cache capacity in RAM.
  • Possibility to make unified authentication with our XMPP server, wiki, GNU Social instance, and other resources (including planned one).
  • More bandwidth to internet connection, so more users can use our resources simultaneously.

Configuration on our new server:

  • Intel Xeon E5-1620 (was Core i7-4770)
  • 64 GB RAM (was 32 GB)
  • 2×2 TB HDD Software RAID1 (was 2×2 TB HDD Software RAID 1)
  • 500 Mbps guaranteed bandwidth with 1 Gbps max (was 200 Mbps guaranteed with 1 Gbps max)
  • Located in France (was in Germany)
Please note relocating to France! Due to this, our resources could be vulnerable to France's laws!

While we will perform this migration, you should expect:

  • All kind of HTTP errors, like gateway timeouts or internal server errors.
  • All kind of domain errors, like domain not found thing.

Don't worry, all data will be backed up before migration, so nothing will be left in eternity :-)
